Capturing Tastes from the Past

Swing

My body is weird. I figured I’d just get that out of the way first. There have been several times in my life where I’ve developed a life-threatening allergy out of the blue, only to have it disappear after a few years. In the past, fish caused me to go into anaphylactic shock, and now I can eat sushi all day long. Any amount of dairy used to give me horribly, distressing GI issues. Then, for several years, I could eat dairy without any consequences.

My most recent morphing allergy was eggs. I eliminated eggs from my diet when I first started a keto diet. I cut eggs, dairy, and nightshades, out of my diet for three months.

At the end of that time, I reintroduced them one at a time, with long breaks in between.

I didn’t see a difference with the nightshades. I’d always been sensitive to them, and not having them for three months didn’t change that sensitivity. I can have some nightshades in small amounts without any issue. More than small amounts, and I get really bad cold sores.

Dairy, it turned out, gave me headaches that would last for 24 hours. When I was on more of a hair-trigger for migraines, I believe they caused some of my migraines as well.

Eggs were something else altogether. When I reintroduced eggs, I broke out in hives…
